Fitness Means Staying Teachable
One of the things I really appreciate (and am humbled by) in the fitness journey is all of the learning it requires of us. Beyond the physical, our mental development is truly a journey in its own right – to learn what we don't know, re-learn what we thought we knew, and grow with each lesson.
Sure, some lessons are harder than others and even require some re-takes until we get it right. But our progress is determined by our willingness to learn and stay teachable. The potential is limitless for the teachable heart!
We can practically execute on this regularly by:
👥 Learning from others (what they do/don't, what works). This is where community matters.
🦶🏽 Learning about my body (rhythms, likes/dislikes, best treatments).
🏋🏽♂️ Exploring exercises and fitness tips, techniques, and best practices.
One of my quiet but big wins was picking up this workout routine to gain 10 pounds of muscle in weeks. While I didn’t necessarily hit that target within that time, I did achieve my goal of learning different exercises and techniques to take my regimen to the next level! It gave me a starting point, fresh ideas, and something tangible to build around and work towards.
But it started first with me being teachable and willing to put in the work to learn it. Not to mention finding credible sources that weren’t just hype. Going with what you know can only take you so far. Real growth, physically and mentally, happens outside the comfort zone.
What are some ways you can stay teachable in your fitness journey?
